A diet that is suitable for a net zero world is quite different from a typical diet people eat today. Today’s diet is meat rich, with more saturated fat, sugar and salt than we should be consuming. In the UK alone, poor diet accounts for 13% of deaths as it causes diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol. It also counts for 25% of our carbon footprint as the global average food emissions per person per day is roughly 6kg. What we need to move towards is a plant-based diet. It is probably the best place to start when reducing our emissions in our everyday lives because a quarter of all greenhouse gases come from food. To meet net zero targets by 2050, we need to halve our carbon emissions from our diet from 6kg to 3kg a day by 2030.

This section will show you what a plant-based diet really looks like and reducing your carbon emissions from food is easier than you think if you have the right information. There are plenty of options to choose from and being aware of which foods are more carbon emitting than others mean you can switch away high carbon emitting foods and towards more eco-friendly options within your present preferences. You can still be a meat eater, have cuisines from all over the world and indulge yourself whilst meeting this target. Also, this section will show you that a net zero diets is far healthier than how people are currently consume and it will prevent you developing long term health conditions, help with losing weight and will be better for your finances.
