Empowering Your Choices for a Sustainable Tomorrow

This website is dedicated to giving your ideas on how to reduce your carbon footprint through your everyday decisions. Our main objective is to show you that it is not as hard as you might think to reduce your footprint; if you have the right information at hand. Adopting a lifestyle with a lower carbon footprint won’t make your life more difficult or dull. You can enjoy your life and choose from options that suit you as an individual. There is plenty of scientific evidence over the previous decades that shows our world is under threat from global warming. We need to act because with the current levels of carbon emissions mean we are on the trajectory for the world to heat up to 2.7 degrees Celsius by 2100.

What is Net Zero?

To avoid catastrophic climate change, the world needs to get to Net Zero emissions by 2050, a goal set by more than 90% of countries in the world. ‘Net zero emissions’ means that the human population will be producing only enough emissions that can be offset by the ecosystem. It is the only way to stop global temperatures from rising.

Can we forget about Net Zero and choose another goal?

The answer is no. The scientific community are clear that this is our only route out of global warming. As long as we are emitting more greenhouse gases than the ecosystem can consume, there world will keep heating up and threaten the way we live. Every fraction of a degree that the planet warms up counts because the higher global warming gets, the worse the outcomes will be for

Net Zero and You

What does Net Zero mean for you and what are we trying to achieve? Getting to Net Zero by 2050 requires a transition in our lifestyles. We are in a fossil fuel-based economy so it would be very hard to achieve a Net Zero lifestyle now. This is why the pathway to Net Zero needs to be a staggered reduction. Ideally, we should halve our carbon footprint by 2030 and reduce it to Net Zero levels by 2050. A good goal to have is to get as close as you can to halving your carbon footprint by 2030. A good place to start is to use an app to calculate your individual carbon footprint and work towards reducing your carbon footprint in different areas of your life.

I am only one person in billions. Does it make any difference what I do as an individual?

The answer is yes it does matter what you do as an individual. What you can achieve as an individual is immense and don’t underestimate your ability to change the world around you. If everyone took some steps towards cutting their footprint, it would collectively make a very big difference. Cutting your carbon footprint can be done alongside with acting collectively too. Acting in a collective group is just as important and we discuss the best ways to act collectively on this website. Also, there are so many positives to adopting a low carbon lifestyle: from saving money to improving your health.

How this website is organised

To help you navigate our tips to reduce your carbon footprint, we have organised your lifestyle into four areas: diet, housing, travel and shopping.

What are we trying to achieve in each area?

Diet: eating a plant-based diet. Climate change scientists recommend cutting the amount of meat we eat by 20% and then a further 35% by 2050. We need to cut down dairy by 20% by 2050.

Housing: an energy efficient home, only using as much energy as you need and using renewable energy in the home.

Transport: using low carbon modes of transport where possible that fit within our lifestyle and available options.

Shopping: living a lifestyle that minimizes harm to the planet.

This website is here to show you that not only is it easier than you might think to reduce your daily carbon emissions, it has the potential to vastly improve your life.  This journey does not just help the planet, it will help you to achieve personal goals too, positively impacting your health, lifestyle and finances. The advice from this website is evidence-based, drawn from the most recent scientific evidence from universities, expert bodies and experts working in relevant industries.
